Listen for yourself
The same eight seconds, before and after.
A voiceover with a fan humming under it. Notice the hiss in the first second, before anyone speaks.
The same recording after Remove Background Sound, exported from the editor. The voice is unchanged and the first second is quiet.
Three tools, three kinds of noise
Pick the one that fits your noise.
-
Noise Suppression
Start here when you are not sure what the noise is. It checks your clip, decides how much background to take out, and sets the slider for you. Good for hiss, static and a distant hum. Take out too much and a voice starts to sound less natural, so the slider is yours to change.
-
Remove Background Sound
For a steady sound you can point at: a fan, an air conditioner, a buzzing light. You park the playhead on a moment where nobody is talking, and that exact sound is taken out of every clip from the same recording. It needs a gap of about a second between sentences.
-
Voice Isolation
For music, traffic or a busy room behind someone talking. It pulls the voice away from everything else. You can keep the background on its own audio track and turn it down instead of deleting it. It is the slowest of the three, and the first use downloads what it needs.
All three are in the editor under Tools, then Audio. They run on your own computer, so your footage is not uploaded, and you can undo any of them.

What to expect
- Your original audio stays in the media library, and undo brings it back on the timeline.
- The first run of Noise Suppression can take a few minutes. Long clips take longer.
- Remove Background Sound can clean every clip from one recording at once, only the clips you selected, or one whole track.
- Past about 20 dB the voice starts to thin out. Go up only as far as you need.
- It works on audio clips as well as video clips.
Questions
Before you try it
Is removing background noise really free?
Yes. All three tools are free to use with no account, and exports have no watermark. Pro adds things like the AI assistant, but noise removal is not one of them.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. The cleanup runs on your own computer, and your footage only leaves it if you choose to save to cloud storage.
Will it make the voice sound robotic?
Only if you push it. Taking out a little leaves the voice natural, and taking out a lot starts to thin it. Start with the suggested amount, listen, and raise it only if the noise is still there. Undo is one click away.
What if the noise is someone else talking, or music?
Use Voice Isolation. It separates the voice from the music and everything else behind it, and can keep that background on its own track.
Does it work on audio files?
Yes. An MP3 or WAV on the timeline is cleaned the same way as the sound inside a video.
